Church Vision

“There is no more powerful engine driving an organization toward excellence and long range success than an attractive, worthwhile, and achievable vision of the future widely shared”                                        Burt Nanus

Often we read accounts of vision in action or see the effect of some visions implemented in a church. It is another thing altogether to be able to spot the real things. I believe in visions, dreams and goals as long as they are God’s visions, dreams and goals Philippians 1:6 I Corinthians 2:9-11).

I have also learned that if one has a New Testament church, you cannot stay small: the church grows daily and weekly (Proverbs 29:18). Where there is no vision, the people perish; this logic is self-evident. I believe visions are accomplished in several ways, and one of those is through people. I am convinced that people really do want to do something of value for God. I do not accept that people are lazy. I believe that the greatest gift to be offered to a congregation is the gift of opportunity! It is crucial to show the congregation that within every individual is a spiritual greatness; mediocrity is unacceptable (Romans 11:36). “From Him” – He is the source of all creativity; “through Him” – we are the resource; and “to Him” clearly displays that He is the goal of all that we do. In this way, the glory continually returns to Him.

Defining Vision

Vision is a clear and precise spiritual portrait of a God-given future that He imparts to His chosen servants based on one’s understanding of God, himself, and circumstance. Vision is tangible to the beholder. Although it is a concept or perspective of nonexistent reality, vision exists within the mind of a visionary so clearly that it may be thought of as a living image. Such a vision motivates and directs ministry, filters information, serves as a catalyst in decision making and measures progress.

Change Will Occur

Vision involves change. It enables you to improve a situation. It focuses on the future and represents a perspective that anticipates the challenges and opportunities to come. The visionary Christian is one who appreciates the past, lives in the present, but thinks in the future. If it is to bring pleasure to God, it will be significantly different from the reality you experience today.

Vision is initiated by God, is desired by His people and is conveyed through the Holy Spirit. God communicates His vision only to those who have persisted in knowing Him intimately; His vision is a sacred part of His unfolding eternal plan. This means that your motives for seeking a vision are crucial (Acts 8:9-24); demonstrates an appropriate desire).
